Vultee A-35

The A-35 was a two-seat land-based dive-bomber developed by Vultee Aircraft Corporation.  Per Freference [8] the A-35 was a development of the earlier A-31 aircraft, differing from it primarily in wing incidence angle.  The intial A-31 was developed by Vultee in response to a French Armee de l'Air requirement but did not take its first flight until 30 March 1941.
Although the design was meant primarily for sale on the foreign markt, the USAAF eventually took delivery of a number of both the A-31 and A-35 variant, though none were to see combat with the USAAF.  The design did however serve with the Royal Air Force (RAF), Royal Navy (RN), Royal Austrailian Air Force (RAAF), tRoyal Indian Air Force (RIAF), Free French Air Force, and Brazilian Air Force during WWII.  A total of 1,931 of all types of this aircraft were built.

As shown in the images below distinguishing features of this aircraft including;
The W-shaped wing planform was incorporated into the design to shift the location of the center of lift of the wings which was initially miscalculted.

In order to try and better develop weight estimating relationships an effort has been made to estimate the length of the fuselage aft of the firewall, and the length of the engine section forward of the firewall based off scaled drawings.  Together these two distances add to a term called the "structural length" and do not consider any portion of the engine or propeller shaft the extend foward of the fuselage/cowling, or any empennage that extends aft of the fuselage structure.  The drawing below shows the current best estimate of these dimensions obtained from available drawings of the airplane and will be updated with any real world data that becomes available.  For any aircraft with an inclined firewall, an attempt has been made to locate an approximate center of this location.
